Lead the Way Dog Training – Creating happy ever afters one tail at a time

How We Work – The Lead The Way Process

At Lead The Way, we focus on results and support for your dog and family. As a result of years of experience helping families accomplish their dreams and goals, we approach things a bit differently than other trainers.

To help ensure we’re aligned, here are the 3 easy steps you’ll go through to start training with us.

The first step is a complimentary phone consultation with one of our team members. In this conversation, we work to learn about your dog, your family, any challenges occurring, and any relevant history. This helps our founder Amy McCaa prepare for the next step, the intro lesson. Phone consultations are easy to set up and can be scheduled by calling, texting, or messaging us.

The next step in the process is a 1-on-1 introductory lesson with Amy. This lesson happens virtually via Zoom. With this approach, we are able to witness and understand the dynamics of your family-pack while you, your family, and your dogs all feel comfortable in your home. A fee is charged for this lesson, and payment is required to confirm your appointment. Amy uses the information from your phone consultation and will address the most pressing challenges. During this lesson, Amy will get you started immediately with proven “training games” and tools to take the first steps toward your goals.

As a follow-up to your lesson, you will receive a personalized Behavior Modification Plan, practice exercises with video references to start your training journey, and a full write-up of the session with any relevant supporting documentation or reference links.

After the introductory lesson with Amy, the team collaborates and works on personalized program recommendations for you. Program options are priced based on your goals, learning style, and the involvement of our team to support your dog’s journey.

Our team will walk you through the options and investments to move forward. When you enroll in a program within 14 days of your introductory lesson, we also will credit that lesson fee towards your program!

That’s how easy it is to work with us! We find the most success when all family members are available for the Introductory Lesson. After enrollment, our programs run from 3-12 months typically and often include a stay with the team or what you might be familiar with as a “board and train.”

We work hard to be available and pride ourselves in being very responsive throughout the process. We are never more than a text, email, or call away.

We know many other training options focus on a series of group classes on set days and times. This can work for some dogs, but we have also found that many dogs aren’t ready to learn in that environment. Without 1-on-1 support teaching you how to engage with your dog, often the learning stops short of where you were hoping to be.
