🐾Understanding Aggression in Dogs 🐶💜

Have you ever noticed your dog becoming stiff, staring intensely, growling, or going on high alert when they see another dog or person? 👀

Lately, we’ve been hearing concerns from pawrents saying:
💬 “My dog is fearful.”
💬 “My dog is aggressive.”
💬 “My dog is anxious.”

The good news? 💜 These pawrents are taking the first step by recognizing their dogs’ behavior and seeking help early!

🐾 Here are a few tips to help:

💡 1. Learn to recognize the warning signs. Watch for a stiff body, hard staring, growling, lip lifting, or lunging. These signals can indicate discomfort, fear, or a need for more space.

💡 2. Give your dog space. If your dog becomes alert or uncomfortable around another dog or person, calmly create distance. Avoid forcing interactions.

💡 3. Don’t punish warning signs. Growling and other warning signals are communication. Punishing them may suppress the warning without addressing the underlying emotion.

💡 4. Reward calm behavior. When your dog notices a trigger from a safe distance and remains calm, reward them. A qualified trainer can help you determine the right distance and training approach.

💡 5. Seek help early. Aggression and guarding shouldn’t be ignored or expected to resolve on their own. Early support can help prevent escalation and teach safer, more appropriate responses.

💜 Remember: Your dog isn’t necessarily trying to be difficult. Fear, stress, discomfort, and other factors can contribute to aggressive behavior. Understanding what’s behind the behavior is an important step toward helping your dog.

🐶Noticing these behaviors in your pup? You don’t have to navigate them alone! 🐾 Reach out to Lead The Way Training for guidance and support. We’re here to help you better understand your dog and work toward safer, more positive interactions. 🐶💛
