As we anticipate the long weekend and holidays, it’s important to consider how your dog will behave around guests — and how your guests feel about dogs, too!

Make a plan for exercise and naps. Be as proactive as possible. Let guests know about your house rules and remind infrequent visitors that although they know you well, your dog doesn’t know them. Practice all of the introduction skills you’ve learned – even with people you’ve known your entire life in addition to your door manners!

It is OK for your dog to exercise before guests arrive and then go to their room for a nap with a yummy treat (like a stuffed kong) while you enjoy family time and big meals. This can be better for them, you, and your guests, so it’s a #winwinwin! Your dog is super sensitive to all of the holiday energy – take a deep breath, make a plan, and remember to #LeadTheWay! Your furry friend will follow YOUR LEAD, so be mindful of what’s happening on both sides of the leash.
